I love LA, BUT...

It isn't news that I love LA. I will defend LA with my dying breaths. I will always get defensive when a New Yorker tries to bring down my lovely palm-infested town. But the reality is that I have fallen out of love with LA.

LA has always been my limbo, my vacation destination, my everything-goes-town, my party city, my artsy-fartsy-playground, but now LA is reality. Maybe I am placing the blame on LA, when the reality is that it is all about timing.

The timing is all wrong. I am trying to work out my future and life in a town where people are chasing big, silver dreams.

At this point in my relationship with LA, I have to say that I love LA, but I am not in love with it. I know this is a relationship that I have not put any real dedication in the last seven years. Now the time has come to fall back in love with the city that gave me courage and smarts to travel the world.

I hope that in the progression of this blog you and I can see me fall in love.

  1. Los Angeles is a beautiful city! The few times I have traveled to LA, I've enjoyed my experience.

  2. LA is home AND another planet. I grew up there but can't imagine living there now. Some of the changes are exciting but the grime, crowds, etc., make me happy to come home to Phoenix. Don't get me wrong, I still long for that California weather!

  3. I love NY, but sometimes I have to take mini "staycations", and see it again through the eyes of a tourist. It made me discover and appreciate the beauty of living in NY, all over again. Maybe you need to do the same for LA? Have a wonderful day xoxo

  4. "Home is where the heart is" is so true. As a frequent traveler between my hometown of Miami and my home of Tallahassee I am forever in limbo. But truth be told, when it came time to choose a new cell number I chose one with 850 Tally area code, not 305/786 Miami. That's where I find my peace, and therefore it's home. Hope you find your peace. BB2U

  6. I love L.A but like you mentioned I haven't lived there in years. Its one of those places I would live to visit often but living there is something I cant do anymore.

  7. Since I've never lived out side of L.A., I can't really state my opinion on this one. I will however say, that I love L.A. I do avoid anything west of the Sepulveda though, never been a fan of the West Side, gross. I'm more of a North L.A. and Valley kinda guy. I grew up in South Central and have seen parts of L.A. even the old timers haven't heard of. I'm proud of myself for knowing L.A. like the back of my hand. That being said though, this year, I took it upon myself to photograph L.A. as if I were at tourist. And have fallen in love with L.A. all over again.
